Our History
Our goal is to provide a healthy, satisfying and safe environment in the home or senior's residence that enables clients to maintain their independence and quality of life.
a1 People Care was started in 1993 by Fran Pelton, RN. In 2005, after 12 years behind the scenes, Fran's daughter Lori Ann Harsent took over the reins.
Today, a1 is owned by by Dan and Lori Ann Harsent. Fran is still involved as consulting RN.
The Harsent boys (from left to right, Matthew, Brayden, and William) ensure that the whole family has a busy, active life filled with lots of adventures. Our favourites include trips to the park, cycling, and anything to do with food or music.
"You will no doubt know from [your companion] that my brother, Richard Lloyd died on Sunday June 25th. [The companion] has been absolutely marvellous with Richard. I am sure his death will be a personal loss to her too, and yet his death has been a 'sweet release' for him after such a long illness.
I want to thank you for your marvellous service that has supplied such caring companions to Richard over these past nine years. God Bless you all."

"We have been with A1 People Care for just over 3 years now. Like many families, we entered into a home-care situation in an emergency situation: my father was in hospital after a fall, being held until he was placed in an extended care facility; my mother was at home alone, and had a form of dementia akin to alzheimers...A1 were able to quickly arrange and provide 24 hour care, giving the family time to organize ourselves.
Obviously one of the main considerations when using caregivers is to find the right person or persons to meet the family needs, and to then continue with that person or persons, providing a stable environment for those receiving the care. They obviously take great care in selecting their caregivers, and the same care is taken in selecting the caregivers best suited to the situation.
Hats off to Lori Ann and Fran then, and to the caregivers themselves, who have often had to deal with very stressful situations....and have provided stability and continuity, with kindness, to lives that were radically destabilized by illness and dementia."
